It’s been a brain-tickling few days at INTL Assembly in Glasgow, and I’m more hopeful than ever that our industry is, in fact, not doomed.

Year after year, the team of Warriors Studio pour their energy into bringing the international design community to Scotland to share and celebrate ideas, creativity, and visual culture.

This year’s speaker lineup featured a mix of design legends, fine artists, and animation studios including Emily Oberman, YONK, Annie Atkins, TEMPLO, M/M (Paris), Jingqi Fan, OK-RM, Talia Cotton, Wilfred Wood, Form Play Studio, and Studio Yukiko.

Here are a few thoughts from the talks that stuck with me:

Changing what you make changes what you find – Jingqi Fan

Those who attack your work often fear you the most – Pali Palavathanan

Creating something by hand is quicker than faking it – Annie Atkins

Your sketchbook is a second brain in your back pocket – Form Play Studio

I can’t possibly talk about the conference without giving a nod to the hosts, Jack Renwick and Martin Boath who graced the stage in red stripes and black tartan to serve up some class banter.

Speaker Talia Cotton summed it up best when she said, ‘We are the lucky ones.'

Aren't we just.
